Terms of Use
Last updated: September 2026
These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the CardioLens AI website at www.cardiolens.ca and the applications published by CardioLens (collectively, the "Service"). By downloading, accessing, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
The Apps These Terms Cover
- CardioLens AI: AI ECG analysis, the rhythm library, quizzes, and clinical cases. Requires an account.
- ECG Builder: builds synthetic 12-lead tracings and rhythm strips from a description. Runs entirely on your device and requires no account.
- www.cardiolens.ca: this website, including the blog and the contact form.
These Terms apply to each app on every platform we publish it for. Which platforms an app is currently available on is shown on its store listing.
ECG Builder is a CardioLens product. These Terms and our Privacy Policy apply to it exactly as they apply to CardioLens AI.
Educational Use Only
The Service is an educational tool. It is not a medical device, and it must not be used for diagnosis, treatment, triage, or any patient-care decision.
- AI interpretations produced by CardioLens AI are educational references. They can be wrong, and they are not a clinical read.
- Every tracing produced by ECG Builder is synthetic: generated by a mathematical model, not recorded from a person. It resembles a real recording on purpose, and it is not one.
- The Service does not grant, issue, or replace any certification, and it is not a substitute for an accredited course or for supervised clinical training.
Always rely on your own clinical judgment, your institution's protocols, and a qualified clinician's review. In an emergency, rely on your training and your team, not on this Service.
Eligibility and Accounts
The Service is intended for healthcare professionals, students, and educators aged 17 or older.
CardioLens AI requires an account. You agree to give accurate information, to keep your credentials secure, and to be responsible for activity under your account. Tell us at support@cardiolens.ca if you believe your account has been used without your permission. ECG Builder has no account and no sign-in, and nothing you build in it is sent to us.
Purchases
All purchases are processed by Apple and Google. We never see or store your payment details.
- CardioLens AI Pro is a subscription billed through the App Store or Google Play. It renews until you cancel, and you cancel it in your Apple or Google account settings rather than with us.
- ECG Builder Pro is a single, one-time purchase. Nothing renews. It unlocks every rhythm and finding, and removes the watermark so a sheet can be exported. It is tied to the store account you bought it with and works on your devices signed in to that account. On Apple devices it is also shared with your Family Sharing group where you have that enabled.
- Restoring: a purchase can be restored at any time on a new device or after reinstalling, from the app's own Settings screen.
- Refunds are handled by Apple and Google under their own policies. We cannot issue a refund for a store purchase, so request one through the store you bought from. If something is wrong, write to us anyway at support@cardiolens.ca. We would rather fix it.
- Prices may change. A change never affects a purchase you have already made.
For apps downloaded from the App Store, Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies, and governs anything these Terms do not address. Apple is not a party to these Terms and has no responsibility for the Service.
Free Tiers and Watermarks
Both apps have a free tier. It is a genuine sample of the paid product rather than a trial that expires.
Sheets produced by the free tier of ECG Builder carry a www.cardiolens.ca watermark and cannot be exported. You agree not to remove, crop, obscure, or otherwise defeat that watermark, and not to work around the export limit. Buying Pro is what removes it.
What You May Do With What You Make
Tracings you build with ECG Builder Pro are yours to use. Put them in slides, handouts, exams, question banks, course materials, and published teaching work, including commercially. No attribution is required, though it is welcome.
Two limits apply, for one reason: a synthetic tracing must never be mistaken for a recording from a person.
- Do not present a generated tracing as a real patient recording, as a clinical record, or as evidence of anything that actually happened.
- Do not use a generated tracing in a clinical record, a diagnostic workflow, a regulatory submission, or in the training of a system intended for clinical use.
Do not resell or redistribute the tracings as a dataset, a library, or a competing product.
Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose, or for any clinical purpose
- Share, resell, or redistribute your account or your purchase
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract source code, models, or content from the Service
- Scrape or use automated tools against the Service without our permission
- Upload images containing patient-identifying information to the AI Scanner
- Misrepresent the Service, or anything it produces, as clinical guidance or certification
- Interfere with the Service's integrity, security, or performance
AI Features
CardioLens AI sends the ECG image you submit to Anthropic's Claude API for analysis, as described in our Privacy Policy. AI output is generated text: it can be incomplete, out of date, or simply wrong, and it carries no warranty of clinical accuracy. Judge every interpretation yourself. ECG Builder's tracings are generated on your device by a physiologic model, and no image or description you enter there leaves the app.
Intellectual Property
The Service, including its software, synthesis engine, waveform models, interface, artwork, written content, and the CardioLens and ECG Builder names and logos, is owned by CardioLens and protected by copyright and trademark law. Your purchase is a licence to use the apps, not a transfer of ownership. Nothing here grants you the right to use our names or logos without written permission.
Availability
We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service, and we may modify or remove features. Where a change would materially reduce what a paid purchase provides, we will say so in advance through the app, or by email where we have your address.
Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and any warranty as to clinical or educational accuracy. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that any interpretation or tracing it produces is correct.
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, CardioLens and its founder(s) and affiliates are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service, including clinical decisions influenced by it, errors in generated content, loss of data, or interruption of service.
Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us (or paid Apple or Google for our apps) in the 12 months before the claim, or CAD $100.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions. Where that is so, the exclusions above apply only as far as the law allows.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless CardioLens, its founder(s), and affiliates from claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Service, your breach of these Terms, or your violation of any third-party rights. That includes any clinical use of the Service, or of anything it produced.
Termination
We may suspend or terminate access if you breach these Terms. You may stop using the Service at any time, and you may delete a CardioLens AI account by emailing support@cardiolens.ca from the address on the account. Sections that by their nature should survive termination remain in effect, including intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, and governing law.
Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision, and material changes will be announced in the app. Continuing to use the Service after a change means you accept the revised Terms.
Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Disputes arising from these Terms or the Service will be resolved in the courts of Ontario, Canada.
